PIERRE, (KCCR) — Starting Monday, the South Dakota Department of Transportation, through a Minnesota-based contractor, will begin removing and replacing pavement markings on state and U-S Highways in and around Pierre and Fort Pierre. The project will be taking place on sections of U-S Highways 14/83 and state Highway 34. U-S Highway 83 will get new stripes and lines from state Highway 1806 south of Fort Pierre, through the city to the Yellowstone Street junction with U-S 14/83. U-S Highway 14 will be remarked in two segments. The first is from the state Highway 1806 junction in west Fort Pierre, over the Waldron Bridge to Pierre on Sioux and Wells Avenue to just west of Harrison Avenue. The second area on Highway 14 will be along the entire length of Garfield Avenue from the divided four-lane on the north to the 14/34 junction on the south end. U-S Highway 14 from a mile west of the Blunt junction to a mile east will also get new markings. Crews will be working with a combination of lane closures and flaggers to complete this project. Drivers are encouraged to slow down through the work zone. The pavement marking project is expected to be complete by June 5th.
