The Muskegon Lumberjacks are heading back to the Eastern Conference Finals for the third straight season after a 6-1 game five win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints Tuesday in Dubuque.
Pierre native and captain of Muskegon Carter Sanderson would return to the lineup after missing games three and four with a concussion and score the first goal of the game on a deflected shot to tie it at 1-1. Sanderson also assisted on the third goal of the game as Melvin Novotny would make it 3-1 after two periods. Muskegon would pile in another three goals in the third period including an empty netter to seal the victory and take the series with the 6-1 win. Sanderson’s return to the lineup would be heard all over the ice as he would finish with a goal and an assist with a plus/minus of three and would be named the first star of the game.
Muskegon will now face the Madison Capitols in the Eastern Conference Finals, the sixth seed in the East. Muskegon will host games one and two, Friday and Saturday before traveling to Madison for games three and four on Friday and Saturday, May 8-9 with the winner-take-all game five on Monday, May 11 back in Muskegon.
