The Pierre Governor softball team had to come from behind this time, but the Govs still would win 11-6 over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles on Tuesday at home to improve to 4-2 on the season and beating the Golden Eagles for the second straight time.
Aberdeen Central’s three run top of the first was matched by the Govs in the bottom of the first as Ava Nelson had a bases loaded walk and both Taryn Spruill and Alivia Heymans had ground out RBIs to tie the game at 3-3. But the Golden Eagles would get another three runs in the top of the second and would hold a 6-3 lead until the fourth, but also led until Pierre had a three run fifth inning to take the lead 7-6. Aliya Erickson had an RBI single and McKenzi Flottmeyer had a sacrifice fly to help put the Govs up for good. A four run bottom of the sixth with Spruill and Heymans having RBI doubles including a two RBI double for Heymans would round out the scoring for Pierre as Heymans had three RBIs and Spruill had two runs driven in with three hits as Pierre had 10 hits in total. Charlie Hull would get the win in the circle going six innings of relief allowing three runs on five hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
The 4-2 Governors will head to Rapid City on Thursday to face the Stevens Raiders in a make up game from last weekend. First pitch is at 5:30 Central Time.
