While playing at home, the Pierre Governor softball team was still the road team on the scoreboard and had an eight run top of the seventh to secure a 15-7 win over Spearfish Friday evening at the Riggs Softball field.
The Governors would go down early 2-0 after the first inning and trailed 3-0 after three complete. Taryn Spruill and Alivia Heymans had RBIs in the top of the fourth to make it 3-2, but again the Govs trailed 5-2 after four complete. A four run fifth gave the Govs its first lead of the day 6-5, but Spearfish again tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. After the Govs took an 8-7 with the help of an error and an RBI ground out from Charlie Hull, Pierre exploded for an eight run top of the seventh to run past the Spartans Heymans had a three RBI triple, Emma Theilen with an RBI ground out and an inside the park home run for Hull. Hull would get the final three outs in the circle to preserve the McKenzi Flottmeyer win. Flottmeyer would go six innings allowing seven runs, two earned, on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Heymans had four RBIs in the win finishing a home run shy of the cycle while Hull had there runs driven in for the now 3-2 Governors.
Pierre will be at home on Tuesday to host the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles. First pitch is at 4:00 from the Riggs Softball Field.
