The Pierre Governor baseball team will be on the road today to face the Huron Tigers in a doubleheader as the Govs have won eight straight heading into tonight.
The Governors are 10-4 overall and 8-4 in South Dakota games as the Govs beat Brookings on Sunday 4-1 and 2-1 to extend its winning streak. The Govs will face the 1-9 Tigers who will be playing its first home game of the season tonight. Huron beat Spearfish 9-3 to open the season but have lost nine straight since then including a walk off loss to Mitchell 2-1 last Thursday to drop its doubleheader. Pierre has its busiest week of the season with six games scheduled in four days so pitching will be key for guys to be efficient to make sure the most pitchers remain available as the week goes along. Pierre will be at home both Friday and Saturday hosting Spearfish and Rapid City Central. Pierre had moved up to sixth place in the standings heading into last weekend.
Coverage of the doubleheader begins at 4:45 this afternoon with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
