PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Pierre man will not spend anytime in prison after being sentenced Tuesday for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Twenty-nine year-old Bristol Nielsen was also sentenced on a misdemeanor charge of Possession of a Substance for the Purpose of Intoxication. Nielsen was given a five-year prison term, but those five years were suspended by Sixth Circuit Judge Bobbi Rank, however Nielsen must complete a three year term of probation for the suspension to be valid. Nielsen owned Masterpiece Smoke Shop in Pierre when he was arrested as part of statewide sting of smoke shops checking for the sale of illegal products in their businesses. Nielsen is one of five owners facing charges from the sting. At a change of plea hearing in March, Assistant Attorney General Jessica LaMie established the factual basis in the case noting a client of Nielsen’s brought a peyote plant to his store. Nielsen then proceeded to bring the peyote plant to his Fort Pierre home. Nielsen admitted to Rank that he knew having the plant was illegal.
