The Pierre Governor baseball team would get a sweep of the Brookings Bobcats on Sunday afternoon 4-1 and 2-1 in the home opener and the Govs have won eight straight.
Pierre would open up the scoring in game one on a sacrifice fly by Tripp Lindekugel in the bottom of the third before a wild pitch would bring home the second run to make it 2-0 after three. Jerren Deal would triple in the fourth to make it 3-0 and Hudson Stoeser’s RBI single made it 4-0 to wrap up the scoring for Pierre and it was all Will Danburg needed to get the win. Danburg went for a complete game on four hits allowing just one run on four strikeouts.
In game two, Sutton Sonnenschein made it 1-0 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third again and it was Bridger Babcock with the game winning hit, a two out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Carter Templeton and Porter Hunsley combined for just one run on four hits, each giving up two hits. Pierre turned three double plays including one in the sixth and seventh inning as Hudson Shaffer made a diving catch on a bunt attempt in the top of the seventh and doubled off the runner at first leading to the third out and finishing off the win for Pierre. Brookings had five errors in the two games while Pierre had just one error and the Govs out hit Brookings 5-4 in each game.
