The Pierre Governor baseball team will be on the road today to face the Aberdeen Smittys in a doubleheader before hosting Brookings on Friday for the home opener.
It’s the third time the Governors are facing a team starting the season now after the opening doubleheader against Yankton, then facing Mitchell last week Monday and now taking on Aberdeen who will start the season this evening. Aberdeen went 7-14 in the spring season last year as the Govs beat the Smittys in 10 innings 2-1 in what was supposed to be a doubleheader, but the second game was canceled due to the weather conditions. Pierre comes in at 6-4 and 4-4 in South Dakota games riding a four game winning streak with a sweep of last weekend’s Border Battle. All pitchers are available and the Govs will be looking to continue its strong pitching from last weekend into today’s doubleheader. Just like last weekend with four games in two days, Pierre is scheduled to host Brookings on Friday which will be the first home games of the season.
Coverage begins at 4:45 this afternoon from Fossum Field in Aberdeen with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
