PIERRE, (KCCR) — Drought has stabilized some after increases across South Dakota last week. The largest drought area in the state remains in the southwest where severe drought extends from the Wyoming and Nebraska borders up into southwest Jackson County. Jackson County is now 14-percent in extreme drought, 55-percent severe drought and 91-percent moderate drought. Mellette County is at 74-percent severe drought while Tripp and Brule Counties are fully under 100-percent severe drought. Buffalo County remains at 86-percent severe drought. Lyman County remains in 61-percent severe drought and 95-percent moderate drought. The most drought-free areas are to the north Ziebach County is 36-percent drought-free. Neighboring Dewey County is 89-percent in no drought. Sully County is 40-percent drought-free on the western edge of the county. Over half of Potter County is in no drought at 66-percent. Only six-percent of Hughes County is listed as no drought in the northwest corner near Spring Creek while across the river Stanley County on the northeast edge is 12-percent drought-free.
