Earlier this week, Walker West would sign his national letter of intent to continue his rodeo career at Eastern Wyoming College and will be participating in three events.
West, who also was a wrestler for the Pierre Governors, is a high quality rodeo athlete and will be competing in calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling at EWC in Torrington, Wyoming. Back in February, West won the tie down roping at the High School Rodeo Showcase in Rapid City. West will join Presho’s Teegan Gourneau who will be a senior next year. Eastern Wyoming College is part of the Central Rocky Mountain Region with the likes of the University of Wyoming and also teams like Chadron State. Currently, Eastern Wyoming is in ninth place of 10 teams in the region. The season goes from the beginning of September through the end of April. West says he’s been doing rodeo his entire life and wants to keep going…
One difference West says when it comes to rodeo recruiting he was reaching out to schools he was interested in academically to say he was then interested in rodeo. West says there still were a few schools who were interested and reached out to him for rodeo…
But West still has one more year to reach the South Dakota High School State Rodeo and he’s looking to make a trip to the national rodeo…
West plans to study Human Services at Eastern Wyoming. The South Dakota High School State Rodeo is June 16-20 in Fort Pierre.
