The Muskegon Lumberjacks are on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals which begin this weekend as the Jacks take on the second seed in the Eastern Conference of the USHL in the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
It’s the second straight year the Lumberjacks and Fighting Saints are meeting in the Eastern Conference Semifinals as Muskegon would sweep Dubuque in the second round to reach the conference finals. Dubuque was the top seed last season. However, Muskegon won’t be going in thinking it will be an easy sweep of the Fighting Saints as the two teams split the season series at three wins apiece with Dubuque winning the final two games of the year against the Lumberjacks. The Fighting Saints went 40-18-4 finishing with four more wins and 10 points better than Muskegon. Pierre native and the captain of Muskegon Carter Sanderson scored a goal in the first round series sweeping the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
The best-of-five series starts this weekend with games 1 and 2 Friday and Saturday April 17-18 in Dubuque with puck drop at 7:05 Central Time. Game 3 is Friday April 24 in Muskegon at 6:05 Central Time with Saturday’s if necessary game 4 at 6:05. The winner-take-all game 5 on Tuesday, April 28 back in Dubuque at 7:05.
