The Pierre Governor baseball team will be on the road to Sioux Falls this weekend to compete in the Border Battle facing two South Dakota teams and two North Dakota teams.
The 2-4 Governors will open the weekend against in-state opponent Lincoln Patriots. Lincoln was 3-0 heading into the week with a win over Washington in the only in-state game. The Patriots faced Harrisburg on Thursday in a single game which will limit the amount of pitchers available for the game. Pierre will have everybody but Brennen McCullough available for Friday and then he will be available to throw on Saturday. Pierre will then face Grand Forks Central following the first game.
On Saturday, Pierre opens the day against O’Gorman, it’s second in-state contest as the Knights come into the weekend at 2-6 but 2-1 in South Dakota games after beating Washington on Thursday. The Knights will play two North Dakota teams on Friday before then starting the day on Saturday against Pierre. The Govs will finish the weekend against West Fargo Saturday late afternoon. The two games against the North Dakota teams will not factor into the standings regardless of wins or losses.
First pitch Friday is at 3:30 with the second game to follow. Pierre faces O’Gorman at 10:30 Saturday morning and West Fargo at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. There will not be any broadcasts of the baseball games this weekend on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. KCCR’s next broadcast will be next week Thursday in Aberdeen.
