The Pierre Governor basketball teams will have two games this weekend to close out the season as the two will trade home games against Roosevelt and Watertown.
The Governor girls will host Roosevelt tonight before traveling to Watertown on Saturday. The Governors are sitting in 15th in the AA standings and these two games are huge to get victories to be in the SoDak 16, but can also move up a spot in the standings. Roosevelt is 6-13 and will close the season against the Governors who sit a spot in front of Pierre in 14th. The Roughriders picked up a big win on Tuesday knocking off Aberdeen Central 46-45 and have won four of the last five heading into tonight. Then on Saturday, the Govs close the season against Arrows who are fighting to get into the top 16. A win for the Arrows against the Govs could propel them into the SoDak 16, but the Govs want to push the Arrows losing streak to seven straight to finish the year.
For the Governor boys, they’ll start the weekend in Sioux Falls against Roosevelt before facing Watertown at home although both games will be against two tough teams. Both teams are in the top five of the standings with Roosevelt at 15-4 heading into tonight and Watertown sitting in sixth place at 14-5 after falling to Harrisburg. Pierre, at 6-12, is in 14th and will gain seed point averages even if they go 0-2 but one to two wins will be huge for the Govs to try and climb the standings and secure their spot in the SoDak 16.
Both games tip off at 7:00 tonight with both also tipping off at 2:00 on Saturday to close out the regular season.
