Governor Girls Secure ESD Title

The Pierre Governor girls wrestling team would take home the conference title once again this year beating out Aberdeen Central by 18 points to claim the team title.

The Govs scored a total of 168 points while Aberdeen Central was 150 and Harrisburg in third was at 114.5. The biggest reason for the Govs picking up the first place title, five first place winners in 12 weight classes with another two reaching the semifinal to have over half the weight classes filled with a Governor in the championship match. Shaylee Speck in the 100, Sydney Caven in the 105, Lexie Hillmer in the 135, Kezrey Benning in the 140 and Abbigail Lewis in the 155 all would win the ESD individual title in their weight class. Both Chevelle Brakke in the 115 and Brylee Pelle in the 190 would place second reaching the championship match. Gemma Stangeland and Cameron Larson each had fourth place finishes for Pierre as nine of the 12 weight classes reached the podium for the Govs.
