Pierre Track and Field First Meet since 2019 is Success

For the first time since the end of May in 2019, the Pierre Governor Track and Field team competed as they traveled out to Aberdeen for the first meet of the season.

The Governors had strong showings with several athletes winning events. Jessica Lutmer won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:49 while Addison Cumbow was first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.5 which was .19 ahead of the second place finisher, Courtney Nipp of Aberdeen Central. Pierre actually had the top three of the 1600 meter run as Brianna and Grace Sargent were second and third respectively. Lutmer also won the 3200 meter run at 12:55 while teammate Rachel Nemec was second at 13:39.

On the boys side, Jack Merkwan was the winner of the 55 meter hurdles with a final run of 8.49. Lincoln Kienholz was the winner of the boys high jump with a height of 1.83. Canyon Jones was the winner of the pole vault event with a height of 3.36 meters. The Governors in total won six events over the first day of competition with several top three finishes throughout the afternoon.
