Hughes County Jury Convicts Pierre Man On Aggravated Domestic Violence Charge

PIERRE — A Hughes County jury has convicted a Pierre man of domestic violence related aggravated assault. Hughes County States Attorney Jessica LaMie says a jury returned the guilty verdict against 36 year-old David Timmons last Friday, March 12th. The prosecution of Timmons was handled by Assistant Attorney General Amanda Miiller on behalf of the county. LaMie says Covid-19 restrictions have created an overflow of case work for her office. Timmons, who is a registered sex offender, also admitted to a Part II Information stemming from a 2015 no contest plea to a charge of fourth-degree rape. Admitting to the Part II Information will enhance the Class Three felony of Aggravate Assault/Domestic Violence to a Class Four felony, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a 50-thousand dollar fine. Sentencing for Timmons is tentatively set for May 10th.
