Pierre Girls Can’t Overcome Slow Start, Fall to Stevens in SoDak 16

It wasn’t the start the Pierre Governors were hoping for in the SoDak 16 contest on Friday night against the Rapid City Stevens Raiders as they found themselves down by 28 points quickly in the game and 19-1 after the first quarter. The Govs weren’t able to overcome it but they did string a run together, ultimately falling 49-34.

Sophomore Remi Price led all Governor scorers with 11 while seniors Caytee Williams finished three, Jessica Lutmer had nine and Kenzie Gronlund was held scoreless. After shooting 17% from the field in the first half, Pierre shot near 40% in the second half to close the gap but it was too wide of a margin to overcome. Bailee Sobczak paced the Raiders with a team high 13 points as Stevens will meet Harrisburg in the first round of the State AA tournament beginning on Thursday in Sioux Falls.

The Governors finish the season at 8-13 and will lose Williams, Lutmer and Gronlund to graduation.
