Capital Girls Have Strong Showing in State Tournament

The Oahe Lady Capitals came into the state tournament this weekend as the eight seed and hung tough for a period with undefeated Aberdeen but fell in both games at the state tournament.

Friday night the Caps played a 2-0 score after the first period against the Aberdeen Cougars who looked frustrated at the Caps defense but the depth of the Cougars were able to overcome and wear down the Caps in an 11-0 win to close day one.

On Saturday, the Capitals faced Sioux Center, the team they closed out the regular season against, and played tough again but ultimately fell 4-2 and were eliminated from the tournament. Olivia Swenson and Brylee Kafka scored the two goals for Oahe. The lone senior Jenna Keyser assisted on the Swenson goal as her career with the Capitals comes to a close.

Aberdeen used a hat trick from Kaitlyn Holland, the leading goal scorer in the state this season, to beat the Sioux Falls Flyers in the state championship game 5-2. Mitchell finished in third and Sioux Center won the consolation bracket on Sunday. The boys tournament will begin on Friday and all 11 games will again be on Capital City Rock, capitalcityrock.com and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
