Chargers Endure a Hard Rain, Get Washed away by Lower Brule

The Lower Brule Sioux reared back and fired three point shot after three point shot, and combined with full court pressure, put the Sully Buttes Charger boys basketball season to an end, with a 78-36 victory Tuesday night in Lower Brule.

The matchup featured the second seed Sioux, against the seventh seeded Chargers for the second time in twelve days.  The first matchup in Warner had Lower Brule winning 55-50.  But this time around, the Sioux left no doubt about why they were second seed in the region.  Sixteen three pointers rained in for Lower Brule on the night.  The Sioux led 45-12 at the half, and in the second half the mercy rule clock did not prolong the Chargers’ fate.

Leading the way for Lower Brule was Keyshaum Thigh, scoring 31 points—and eight treys, While Shane Grey Owl added 18 points and four three pointers. Lower Brule ups its’ record to 14-7.

For Sully Buttes—who ended the season at 9-12—senior Rafe Wientjes led with 13 points…the only scorer in double figures.

The Sioux will get to host Friday night, as they’ll take on Ipswich, who knocked off Faulkton Area 54-48.  In the other bracket, top seeded Potter County rolled to a 77-44 victory over North Central, and Herreid Selby Area defeated Highmore Harrold by the final of 73-61.  Friday night the Battlers will host the Wolverines, with both games starting at 7PM.
