Capitals Finish Weekend at 2-1, Second Place in State Standings

The Oahe Capitals didn’t get the clean sweep of the weekend but still won two of three games to remain in second place in the state standings heading into the state tournament in two weeks.

Friday night saw a different Capitals and Rushmore Thunder game as the Caps scored on its first shot to take a 1-0 lead but were then held scoreless the remainder of the night. But, defensively, Rushmore had a much more difficult time generating offense as it was 1-1 late in the third period before a quick 2-1 turned into Seth Stock scoring the game winner with under two minutes to play as the Thunder finished the season sweep of the Capitals.

Saturday saw an offensive outburst by the Caps after being down 2-0 on the first two Sioux Falls 2 shots. Isaac Polak started the comeback and Andy Gordon scored three straight and recorded his second hat trick of the season as Oahe beat Sioux Falls 2 7-3 to sweep all four games against the two Sioux Falls teams this year.

Sunday, the seniors were recognized and five of the seven didn’t wait to get the first going. Cooper Swartz, who played in just his second game all season after getting a few shifts on Saturday scored just 19 seconds into the game to give the Caps a 1-0 lead while Andy Gordon, Elliot Leif, Raef Briggs, Keenan Howard and Ashton Griese all scored in the win as the Caps beat the Mitchell Marlins 6-2 to close out ht season.
