Pierre Basketball Sweeps Brookings

The Pierre Governor basketball teams picked up two big wins on Tuesday as the boys knocked off Brookings on the road 62-41 while the girls won at home over the Bobcats 56-38.

The Governor boys got the much needed win behind a solid night from sophomores Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman. Kienholz led all scorers with 26 on the night, a game after being held scoreless in the loss to Roosevelt. Edman finished with a double-double as he dropped in 13 points and grabbed 10 boards in the win. Pierre jumped out to a 23-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and shot near 50% from the field in the first half but opened things up in the second half holding the Bobcats to 16 points in the second half.

The Pierre Governor girls got a hot shooting night from sophomore Remi Price as she dropped in a game high 19 points with five three’s on the night. The Govs forced 23 turnovers from the Bobcats and had only eight in the game as Pierre ran away with it in the second quarter opening up a 30-13 lead at halftime. Freshman Reese Terwilliger finished with eight on the evening as the Govs did a great job fronting and denying 6’5 Ainsley Shelsta from catching in the low post.

The Governor boys will end its season on Saturday in O’Gorman with a tip-off at 3:00. The girls finish the season at 8-12 and will wait to see their opponent for the SoDak 16 after games conclude on Saturday.
