Capitals Earn Split in Big Weekend, Remain atop Standings

The Oahe Capitals went even over the weekend losing for the first time in regulation on Saturday against the Rushmore Thunder 6-1 but came back to beat the Brookings Rangers in overtime 2-1 on Sunday.

Dawson Wirth and Kael Delzer scored twice for the Rushmore Thunder and a goal with 0.2 seconds left in the first period gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead and never trailed in the hockey game en route to a 6-1 win on Saturday in Rapid City. The Capitals couldn’t get sustained offensive pressure and any break to go their way while the Thunder controlled the puck and offensive play with their deep bench as the Caps fell for the first time all season in regulation.

However on Sunday, the Capitals were able to avenge its first loss of the season as they beat the Rangers. Elliot Leif scored his second goal of the weekend on a bad pass while shorthanded tying the game at 1-1 in the second period. It went to overtime for the second straight time between the two teams, but this time the Capitals were on the winning side…
