Pierre Basketball Swept by Winner at Home

The Pierre Governors and Winner Warriors scheduled a matchup after the Governors canceled games with Bismarck and Thunder Basin but the Warriors were the ones that came out victorious in both the boys and girls doubleheader.

The first game of the night featured the girls contest which saw a tight first half which had the Govs trail by four, 26-22. Winner increased its lead to double digits in the third quarter taking a 15 point lead. However, Pierre pushed back and pulled within two possessions but couldn’t finish the comeback falling 51-44. Bella Swedlund led the way for the victorious Warriors with 19 which was the game high while Caytee Williams had 13 and Remi Price with 10 to lead the Govs. Pierre turned the ball over 12 times in the loss.

The Pierre boys had a strong performance from Lincoln Keinholz as he and Brady Fritz battled all night as Fritz finished 34 and Kienholz 22 and Warriors got the final stop winning 65-62. Pierre led at the break 33-30 but the Warriors took a two point lead into the fourth quarter shooting nearly 40% from the field. However, Pierre finished at a near 50% clip on the night but the Govs turned the ball over five more times than the Warriors on the evening.

The Pierre girls will face Lakota Tech on Tuesday at home while the boys are off until Friday when they host Roosevelt. Both of those games will be on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
