Governors Build Early Second Half Lead, Hold on to Defeat Huron

The Pierre Governors used two great quarters from sophomores Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman to propel a 64-52 win over the Huron Tigers Tuesday night in the Huron Arena.

The second quarter was Edman’s as he scored an even 10 as the Govs increased its lead from 12-11 to 26-23 at the break. After, Kienholz took over. In the third quarter alone Kienholz dropped in 15 points en route to a 26 point night hit six of seven free throws in the quarter. The Governors hit 12 more free throws in the game then Huron, the exact margin of victory for Pierre. Bennett Dean sunk three late free throws as the Tigers were starting to make a push to seal the win for Pierre.

The Tigers turned the ball over 17 times with 14 of those coming from a Pierre steal while the Govs turned it over just five times all game.

Pierre is now at 6-9 on the season as they host Winner on Friday. The girls varsity will play first at 5:30 followed by the boys varsity at 7:00.
