Pierre Faces Washington in Boys/Girls Basketball

The Pierre Governors will face the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors on Thursday as the boys will host the Warriors and the girls will be in Sioux Falls.

Both Washington teams are near the top in the AA standings as the Washington boys are the number one team with an undefeated record at 10-0. The Warriors last played last Thursday beating Sioux Falls Lincoln 65-45. The Warriors have knocked off the likes of Yankton, Harrisburg, Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley, all who are in the top six of the state AA standings.

The Pierre boys are coming off a win on Tuesday after upsetting the Mitchell Kernels by 2 on the road, handing the Kernels just its second loss of the season. The Govs will play its final game against the top three in three straight games but it won’t get any easier as they have Brandon Valley on Saturday on the road.

The Pierre Governor girls team will look for a win against Washington on the road and will have the Warrior team who always have the size advantage with Sydni Schetnan and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda at 6’5 and 6’2. Washington’s only losses so far are from Harrisburg in overtime and an undefeated St. Thomas More squad. Kenzie Gronlund, Ayvrie Kaiser and the rest of the Governors defense under the basket will have a tough task to eliminate the bigs of Washington.

Tip-off of both games will be at 7:00 as you can hear the boys game from Riggs High School on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
