Another Split for Sully Buttes in Basketball Play, This time in Murdo

The Sully Buttes Charger girls and boys basketball teams had opposite results from their Saturday contest Tuesday night in Murdo, as the girls faced a lockdown defense and fell by the score of 47-32 to the Lady Coyotes, while the Charger boys heated up and rolled past Jones County 71-49 in the nightcap.

The Charger girls faced a young and talented Lady Coyote squad, who moved around and past the Chargers offensively, and shut down the Sully Buttes offense with a pressure defense, and solid low post play.

Jones County—now 9-3—was led in scoring by sophomore Jaydn Jensen’s 16 points, and Peyton Rankins’ eleven.  The Chargers top scorer was once again freshmen Stevie Wittler, who ended her night with nine points.  The Chargers record now slips to 7-8.

Garrett Petersen exploded for 22 points for the Charger boys—including six three point shots, and led Sully Buttes in scoring, with Rafe Wientjes and Landon Hepker each contributing 12 apiece.  The Chargers up their record to 6-7, while Jones County falls to 6-9.  Leading scorer for the Coyotes was Wyatt Olson, who totaled 23 points on the night.

Next up for the Chargers is a home doubleheader Friday night against the Potter County Battlers.  The JV action begins at 4PM with the girls playing first—and the boys game will only play two quarters, so the varsity girls contest will start a little earlier—at about 5:30.  You can catch both games on Country 95.3FM with DT Meyer on the call.
