The Pierre Governor boys basketball team has their signature win of the season as they knocked off the number three ranked Mitchell Kernels on the road with a 46-44 win.
Lincoln Kienholz and Matthew Hanson were the leading scorers for the Govs as they finished with 19 and 12 respectively. Pierre trailed 38-35 heading into the fourth and found themselves down by six midway in the fourth quarter. However an 8-0 gave Pierre a 44-42 lead and Kienholz found his way to the bucket for a layup to lift the Govs to a 46-44 lead with just 21.5 seconds left in the contest. Zane Alm missed a bucket under the basket at the buzzer to give the Governors the win.
Pierre improves to 5-7 on the year with the win while the Kernels fall to 10-2 as the three game winning streak was snapped by the Govs. Pierre will now face the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors on Thursday at home.
