PIERRE, (KCCR) — Governor Kristi Noem says it’s about protecting South Dakota kids…and the state’s “Help Not Harm” law. That law was passed in 2023. It bans transgender affirming medical procedures among minors…procedures she calls harmful and irreversible. She and nine of her colleagues filed a friend of the court brief, to defend a similar law in Tennessee. The ACLU was quick to respond…saying gender affirming care is based on clinical evidence and the needs of the individual. But, there’s a growing group of medical professionals disputing those claims. It’s called “Do No Harm”…and Senior Fellow Dr. Rick Bosshart says the treatment is being questioned in other parts of the world…
Do No Harm launched a first-of-its-kind national database of hospitals and medical facilities administering irreversible sex change interventions on children in the United States. By accessing public files, the group revealed that South Dakota hospitals treated 30 minor transgender patients between 2019 and 2023, prior to the effective date of the law.
