The quest for the Dome begins tonight at Hollister Field as the undefeated Pierre Governors host the eight seed Mitchell Kernels in the first round of the 11AA playoffs.
It’s the first meeting between the two teams since September 2023 and are meeting in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Governors, at 9-0, throttled both Brookings and Douglas to close out the season on the road and return home where the offense wants to keep rolling and the defense wants to stand tough against a running team. The Kernels have five players with over 200 yards rushing on the season led by Lawson LeBrun with 435 yards. Samari Wright and Mason Kempf each have the team leading five rushing touchdowns. Though, Mitchell can throw as Brady Hoesing has nearly 1000 yards passing averaging a little more than 100 yards per game. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the Mitchell running game is a big part of the preparation…
Pierre’s Jerren Deal counters with over 2000 yards passing and Deal and Hunsley each have over 600 yards rushing and four receivers with over 200 yards as the Govs average nearly 500 yards of offense per game. Steele says the offensive line is a major factor into the game tonight…
Starting with the defensive side, Steele says the key is to trust your eyes…
Coverage tonight begins at 5:30 with a 6:00 kickoff on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
