PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Board of Economic Development has granted use of the Reinvestment Payment program for a wind power project in Haakon County. Philip Wind Partners L-L-C was approved for a Reinvestment Payment up to six-million 102-thousand dollars to support construction of an 87 unit wind farm north of Philip. The project includes the 87 wind turbines along with underground collection and communication systems, a collector substation and a building for operations and maintenance. Construction started on the wind farm earlier this year and it’s expected to begin operation in January of 2028. Around 150 construction jobs will be made with eight permanent full-time positions to run the wind farm over it’s life time. The project is expected to generate nearly 80-million dollars for Haakon County landowners and ag producers and 47 million in capacity and production taxes for the county, schools and state.
