The Sully Buttes Chargers football team are set for the 9A playoffs as the four seed takes on the 13 seed Corsica-Stickney Jaguars in Onida tonight.
The Chargers, at 7-1, will mee the Jaguars who come in at 5-3, but are still the 13 seed in the playoffs as 9A might be the deepest playoffs in the state. Of the 16 teams in the playoffs, only the 16 seed is below .500. The Jaguars come in having won five of the last six after starting 1-2 on the season. The two teams the Chargers and Jaguars have common opponents in Lyman and Kimball/White Lake who the Chargers beat and the Jaguars lost to both. But the caliber of opponents is still tough for the Jaguars who are battled tested. Tom Moore, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers says the schedule has helped the Chargers be battle tested too…
The two teams met back in the 2024 playoffs, the year the Chargers won the state championship, beating the Jaguars 36-6. The two teams have met quite a few times over the year and Moore says this year, they’re still similar to what they run over the last couple of years…
Ball security is a big emphasis to win the game tonight and Moore says they can’t have turnovers…
Coverage tonight begins at 6:00 with kickoff at 6:30 in Onida on Country 95.3 and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports with Wyatt Burichka on the call.
