The Pierre Governor football team would be about as efficient as you could be in a 65-0 win over the Spearfish Spartans Friday night at Hollister Field on senior night.
Carter Schiefelbein would have three catches, the first three plays of the game, for the three touchdowns as he would pass Jack Merkwan for most career receiving yards in school history after passing Jett Zabel a couple of games ago for most career receptions. He finished with 144 yards and three scores. Pierre would have just 16 offensive plays at the half and scored on seven of them for a 44-0 lead at halftime. Jerren Deal would throw for 274 yards and four scores on 9-10 passing as Hudson Stoeser had a receiving touchdown with Deal, Porter Hunsley and Thomas Snyder having first half touchdown rushes. In the second half, Brecken Fuhrman went 5-5 passing for 137 yards and two touchdowns, one to LaTrelle Rodriguez and the other to Luke Deal, their first varsity career touchdowns as Pierre scored on every drive of the game until the final one when the game ended. Cactus Korkow had a fumble recovery and Sutton Sonnenschein and Eli Nickels each had an interception as the defense pitched its first shutout of the season as the Govs improve to 7-0.
The Governors will travel to Brookings to face the 0-7 Bobcats Friday night. Coverage begins at 6:30 and kickoff at 7:00 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
