The now battle tested Pierre Governors are back at home tonight hosting the Huron Tigers, the second of three straight home games as the undefeated Govs look to go to 6-0.
The Governors had to battle against the adversity last Friday in the 38-17 win over the Tea Titans where the Govs trailed 17-10 early in the fourth quarter. Pierre scored the final 28 points to take the 21 point win and extend the Governors record to 5-0 on the season. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the coaching staff told the players to prepare for a full four quarters of football…
While the polls and records say the Huron Tigers should be an easier opponent than Tea, it doesn’t always work that way. Pierre dropped a regular season game to the Tigers in Huron before beating them in the state semifinals. The Tigers come in at 3-2, but the Porisch brothers are the big targets, including Carter who is legitimately a big target. He stands as a 6’5 tight end and can go grab any jump ball. His older brother, Anderson, the quarterback stands at 6’6 and has thrown for 1000 yards and is the leading rusher on the team. The defense continues to be a bend but not break defense, giving up just 14 points in a 14-7 loss to Yankton two weeks ago. Huron had to hang on and beat Aberdeen Central 26-21 last Friday. Steele says it becomes a discipline game on the offensive side because of the Huron defense…
Steele says the Governors need to control the passing game…
Coverage tonight begins at 6:30 from Hollister Field and kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
