PIERRE, (KCCR) — The results of recent rains are beginning to show on the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota. One of the largest changes is a reduction in extreme drought in northwest Dewey and northeast Ziebach Counties. Extreme drought fell in Dewey County 28-percent. An area remains from southeast Dewey County into northwest Sully and southwest Potter Counties. Severe drought in Ziebach County fell 20-percent from last week to 17-percent. Hughes County is now 91-percent drought free while abnormally dry areas sit at eight-percent, a drop from 11-percent last week. No drought has returned to Tripp County and Todd Counties. In Tripp County 18-percent in the west and south adjacent to Todd County is drought free. No drought expanded in Todd County to nearly 64-percent. The western third of Todd County saw abnormally dry conditions fall from 100-percent last week to 36-percent this week. Statewide, extreme drought fell six-percent; severe eight-percent and moderate and abnormally dry five-percent. Drought free increased five-percent.
