The regular season is down to its final two games as the Pierre Governor soccer teams will travel to Aberdeen today to take on the Golden Eagles in a girls and boys doubleheader.
The boys will kick off first and will be looking for a second straight win after a 5-3 high scoring affair against Sturgis on Tuesday. Pierre wants the offensive output to continue against the Golden Eagles who are coming at 8-1-2 and in third place in the AA standings. The Govs are still in 15th after Tea Area upset Jefferson and was able to jump in 14th place while Yankton fell back to 16th place. With little change, this could potentially be a first round matchup in the playoffs. The Govs, at 3-5-3, will have its work cut out for them against a team having allowed just four goals against all season with half coming in its 2-0 loss to Brandon Valley, the only loss for the Golden Eagles.
The Governor girls won its match against Yankton 1-0 last week Friday which started three of the final four against top five teams in the state. The 11-0 Govs will face the 9-2 Golden Eagles who are in fourth place before taking on the top team in AA in Harrisburg next Tuesday to close out the season. These are two crucial games where the Govs can jump to one seed or at least solidify a top two spot. Before winning the last two games, Aberdeen Central had dropped both of its game in a row in 1-0 losses to Harrisburg and Brookings.
Kickoff of the first game is at 4:00 for the boys with the girls game to follow at Gene Brownell Complex in Aberdeen.
