PHILIP, (KCCR) — Officials with South Dakota State University will be celebrating the reopening of the Cottonwood Field Station near Philip on Friday. A severe wind event in 2019 caused severe damage to multiple buildings on the site. The South Dakota legislature approved six million dollars for repairs to the Field Station in 2022. Cottonwood makes up over 26-hundred acres with approximately 125 to 150 head of cattle. Pre-event tours of the site begin at 8:45 am .Mountain Time with a ribbon cutting and remarks at 9:30 am. Cottonwood Field Station is 15 miles west of Philip on Highway 14.
