The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be on the road on Friday as the Yankton Bucks and Gazelles will welcome in the Govs for a rare Friday night contest.
The Governor girls will get a big challenge with the Gazelles who are right behind them in the standings. Yankton is in fourth place with the Govs in third even though Pierre is one of two unbeaten teams remaining in Class AA. The Gazelles will be a tough matchup as they come in at 7-1-2 and have a win over Stevens, their only loss, and the Raiders being in second place in the standings. Yankton has a loss to Aberdeen Central and tied both Jefferson and Mitchell. The Govs will still see Aberdeen Central and Harrisburg before the end of the season with what could be the three toughest games on the schedule in the final four games of the season.
The Governor boys jumped over Tea after the win on Tuesday and will look to jump over the Bucks tonight. Pierre is now in 15th place in the AA standings and facing the 14th place team who are 3-6-1. Yankton is 2-1, though, in its last three games, but fell to the Brookings Bobcats in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday. While it might be a slow climb, it’s still a climb in the standings with a win heading into the final three games of the season and the final home game coming up on Tuesday.
Kickoff from Crane-Youngworth Field is at 5:00 for the girls and the boys game to follow. Pierre will return home Tuesday for its final regular season home match.
