The Pierre Governor volleyball team would fall in both matches on Friday and Saturday in Sturgis and Spearfish as the Govs remain winless to start the season.
The Governors would take the first set against Sturgis Friday evening with a 27-25 win, but the next three sets would not go in favor of Pierre as the Scoopers would get 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16 wins to take the match in four sets. The Scoopers held the Govs under 20 points in those last three sets, overcoming the first set loss.
Saturday didn’t go much better for the Govs although Pierre made things closer in the three set loss to the Spartans. Spearfish would win 27-25, 25-17 and 25-20 to keep the Govs from picking up their first win in five tries to start the season. Ally Keyes had eight kills in the loss while Addison Novotny had five. Evie Doyle finished with four.
Pierre will have three matches this upcoming week with the Govs hosting Washington on Tuesday before traveling to Yankton on Friday and back home for a Saturday afternoon game against Jefferson. Tuesday and Saturday’s games are on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
