The Pierre Governor volleyball team will be back on the court after an eight day break as the Govs travel out west to Sturgis and Spearfish for a couple of weekend matches looking for the first wins of the season.
Pierre opens the weekend with an early start time tonight taking on the Sturgis Scoopers who come in at 3-6 and have won back-to-back games heading into the weekend. The Scoopers are in 15th place in the AA standings while the Governors are in last. Pierre beat Sturgis in four sets last year and have not lost to the Scoopers this decade. The Scoopers are led by Danica Dschaak in kills while the Scoopers run two setters. The Governors are led by Ally Keyes and Hannah Eads, both averaging five kills per match, but the Govs want to extend those kill numbers this weekend.
Saturday, the Govs face Spearfish who is coming into the weekend at 6-7 and will face Aberdeen Central tonight before hosting the Govs the next day. Even though the Spartans have played 13 matches, only three have been against AA opponents and are 1-2 in those matches. Spearfish has a win over Rapid City Central, but have lost both Mitchell and Huron.
Tonight’s first serve is at 5:30 and then at 2:00 against Spearfish on Saturday. Both start times are Central.
