The Pierre Governor girls soccer team would remain undefeated with a 1-0 win over the Brookings Bobcats on Tuesday at home while the Governor boys would fall 2-0.
In the girls game, Lexie Hillmer would net the only goal of the game, heading in a corner kick from Ivy Flottmeyer as Emlyn Swanson grabbed her fourth shutout of the season, but had some help to secure the shutout. Late in the game, Brookings had a look at a goal with Swanson out of the net, but Sophia Brueggeman would save the shot off her foot to keep the game 1-0 and comes away with the biggest save of the afternoon. The win pushes the Governors to now a 7-0 record and over half the wins have come with a shutout at the half way point of the season. Brookings falls to 4-3-1.
The Governor boys would not be able to find the back of the net in the loss to Bobcats. Brookings would score both of its goals in the first half and holding on to beat the Governors for its fourth win of the season. The Bobcats have won back-to-back games and are 3-0-1 in their last four games and 4-2-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Govs fall to 1-4-2 and have lost back-to-back. Pierre will have three straight road games looking to grab some wins over the next couple of weeks.
Pierre will start its road trip in Brandon on Saturday to face the Lynx. The boys will play first at 11:00 and the girls to follow at 1:00 at Brandon Valley High School.
