The Pierre Governor tennis team would have four matches over two days with a trip to Mitchell Friday and Harrisburg on Saturday as the Govs drop all four contests.
The Governors started the day against Mitchell on Friday falling 7-2 to the Kernels as Eliza Mayer and Adrian Hand in flights two and three would get wins 10-5 and 10-7 respectively. Jefferson would then beat the Governors 5-3. Avery Schwartz in flight three and Emma Barnett in flight six would win their singles matches while Schwartz and Ainsley Dilges in doubles flight three would get the win for the three victories. Only eight matches were played as flight one did not compete. Pierre’s Elise Bowers, the usual flight one was not there and according to Coach Terry Johnson, Jefferson did not want to compete against Bower’s sub. Sydney Carlson subbed for Bowers in the Mitchell in dual in singles competition. Jenny Trieu played for Bowers in doubles flight one with Eliza Mayer.
On Saturday, the Govs would fall 8-1 to Harrisburg and then 9-0 to Sioux Falls Christian. Schwartz had the lone win for the Govs in the Harrisburg dual in singles flight four. Gemma Stangeland, who plays with Adrian Hand in doubles flight two, would compete in both singles flight one matches.
The Governors are now 3-8 on the season. Pierre will be at home on Tuesday hosting a triangular with Aberdeen Roncalli and Rapid City Central starting at 11:00 at the Griffin Park Tennis Courts.
