The hot weather would force the start times to move up of the boys and girls soccer matches against Spearfish on Saturday. The Gov girls would win 3-1 while the boys would fall 2-1.
The Governor boys would get its lone goal from Caiden Ahartz, but just could not find the equalizing goal. Its only the first loss in the last four matches for the Govs as they fall to 1-3-2 while Spearfish improves to 4-2-1. Ahartz would score his third goal of the season having scored in each of the last three games for Pierre. The Govs are still outscoring its opponents 7-4 in the last three games.
The Governor girls were in a stalemate in the first half, tied 0-0 before the Govs scored three second half goals to take the lead and hold on for its sixth straight win to the open the season. Aubrey Fischer had two goals for the Govs while Lexie Hillmer nailed in a penalty kick as Micha Klinger and Cameron Larson each had assists. Emlyn Swanson would record four saves for her sixth win in net.
The Governors will finish out its long homestand on Tuesday when the Govs take on the Brookings Bobcats. Kickoff of the girls game will be at 4:00 with the boys game to follow at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
