The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be at home for the third straight game and fifth time in six games overall as the Govs host the Spearfish Spartans in a boys and girls doubleheader.
Because of the expected heat on Saturday, the decision was made to move the games up to play at 10:00 AM instead of an 11:00 AM start for the boys and the girls to follow. Instead, both varsity teams will play at 10:00 AM on both fields. The Governor girls are looking to move to 6-0 on the season after its 4-0 win on Tuesday against Mitchell to begin the season at 5-0. Spearfish has had a struggle to start the season at 1-5 currently. The Spartans have a 9-0 win over Huron, but have scored just five goals in the five losses including being shutout by Washington and Lincoln last weekend and have been outscored 24-5 in losses.
The Governor boys will face the Spartans coming off its first win of the season on Tuesday, beating Mitchell in a 4-0 shutout. The Govs, at 1-2-2 and in 13th place in the AA standings, will face the Spartans who are 3-2-1 coming off back-to-back losses to Washington and Lincoln last weekend. Both teams have beaten Mitchell and the only other common opponent is Huron in which Spearfish won 1-0 while the Govs tied the Tigers at 2-2. Pierre will still be at home on Tuesday next week before having just one home game remaining in the back half of the season.
Kickoff for both varsity games will be at 10:00 AM at the PILC Fields in Pierre on Saturday.
