PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Health is expanding eligibility for the All Women Count program. The minimum age to enter the program has moved from age 30 to age 21. The change will allow more women to seek access to breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services. As of September 1st cervical cancer screenings through the All Women Count program will be available to income-eligible women residents from age 21 to 64. The change puts South Dakota’s program in-line with recommendations from the U-S Preventive Services Task Force, which recommends those screens starting at 21. Breast cancer screens will be available to women aged 20 to 64. Women 30 to 39 years old at high risk for breast cancer and women 21 to 69 who have signs or symptoms suspicious for breast cancer. Screenings will be provided at no cost to eligible women. Women will be eligible for the breast cancer screenings provided they meet program income requirements.
