The Pierre Governor volleyball team would be swept at home this weekend losing to Stevens in three sets Friday night and to Rapid City Central on Saturday in four sets to open the season.
Stevens would beat Pierre 25-11, 25-15 and 25-15. The Govs had just 16 kills on the evening led by Ally Keyes’ five while freshman Evie Doyle had four in her first varsity match. Aurora Prudich would lead the Raiders with 10 kills while Brooke Larson had nine. On Saturday, Pierre would take the second set against the Cobblers, but still lost in four, 25-19, 14-25, 25-11 and 27-25. In the second set, Pierre had 11 kills with Keyes having five of her seven in the set. Hannah Eads would end up leading all hitters having 13 in the match as Pierre finished with 28 in total. However, the Cobblers finished with 46 as Grace Steele had 12 and Addyson Stauffacher had 10. Pierre had eight aces, but the Cobblers finished with 10. Pierre starts the year at 0-2. Stevens improved to 1-1 and Central is now 1-2.
