The Pierre Governor cross country teams would start the season at Hillsview Golf Course on Friday as Daniel Mason and Harper Shaffer each placed third in the varsity runs.
In the boys run, Pierre would get third through sixth as Mason, Jim Neddo, Jett Kirschenmann and Asher Oxford would pace the Governors as Mason finished with a 13:46.37, two seconds faster than Neddo and 46 seconds off the winer, Tate DeVries of Aberdeen Central. Shane Jones would finish in eighth for Pierre. Ryland Magee would be the only Stanley County varsity runner on the day and would finish in seventh place as the junior posted a time of 15:28.84.
In the girls run, Shaffer would finish at 16:38.51, a minute and nine seconds from the winner, Allie Novstrup of Aberdeen. Nevaeh Gutenkauf, Devyn Van Roekl, Sydney Caven, Lydia Zilverberg and Sarah Oedekoven would finish seven through 11 respectively with Lily DeSchepper being 13th and Evelyn Coughlin in 16th. Aberdeen Central would beat Pierre in the team score with an 18 while Pierre had 37 points.
