(Onida, SD) – The Sully Buttes Chargers volleyball team would fall Tuesday night against Jones County to open up the 2026 volleyball season in three sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-12). The Chargers return to action on Saturday in Gettysburg.
Big runs by Jones County in the second and third sets were too much for the Chargers to overcome. The kept it close in the first set and led most of the way until 22-22. Jones County capitalize on opportunities to steal the first set 25-22. Tomi White had three of the four kills for the Chargers in the first set.
In the second set, the Chargers would see Jones County steal the long volleys. While the Chargers offense was able to generate; however, the Jones County defense had an answer. While Sully Buttes were showing signs of a comeback in the second. Jones closed the set on a service error Sully Buttes saw the third set run get away early after an 8-1 start in the third and final set and couldn’t recover.
Chargers unofficially ended with 11 total kills on the night while Jones County had 22 of their own. Tomi White led the way with five kills in the loss. Ellie Nelson and Jaycee Jeager both finished with two kills. SkyLynn Moore and Jane Yackley would add one of her own in the match.
Sully Buttes (0-1) will be in Gettysburg on Saturday for the YTC Tournament. They will return home September 10 against Winner.
