FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Fort Pierre has been selected to take part in Travel South Dakota’s Destination Development program. Destination Development is an initiative designed to help cities strengthen their tourism components and plan for long-term, sustainable growth. Fort Pierre is joining the Yankton/Vermillion Missouri River Water Trail in Destination Development. The cities will work with Travel South Dakota and the George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies program to evaluate the cities current tourism assets, identify opportunities to enhance the visitor experiences and develop strategies for long-term tourism growth. Locally, Fort Pierre Tourism will conduct surveys and seek feedback from residents, businesses, community organizations and visitors as community participation is a critical component of the program. The effort will focus on creating an authentic visitor experience that will lead to travelers spending more time in Fort Pierre while supporting local businesses in the process. More information about engagement opportunities will be released in a few weeks.
