The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be at home for the next four straight games as the Govs begin the long homestand against the Huron Tigers in a girls and boys doubleheader.
The boys will play first, still looking for the first win and goals of the season, however, they are coming in with a lot of confidence on the defensive side after a 0-0 tie against Sioux Falls Christian on the road on Saturday. The Govs at 0-2-1, are in a spot higher than the Tigers who are 1-3 on the season. Huron beat Douglas/New Underwood 6-1 last Friday on the road. Outside of the win, Huron has lost to Mitchell 4-2 and shutout by Aberdeen Central and Spearfish. The Govs will be looking to jump out early on the Tigers to get its first win.
The Governor girls will face a Huron Tiger team who has a renewed sense of energy after stopping its 111 game winless streak spanning over the last decade. The girls beat Douglas/New Underwood 2-0 to stop the streak, but did lose to Spearfish on Saturday with a 9-0 loss and are 1-3 on the season. Pierre’s Lexie Hillmer has scored five goals in three games to open the season while Emlyn Swanson grabbed her first shutout of the season on Saturday in the 2-0 win over Sioux Falls Christian. Over the last three seasons, Pierre has won by double digits with 10-0 wins over the last two years and an 11-0 win three years ago.
Kickoff of the boys game is scheduled for 4:00 with the girls game to follow at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
