The Pierre Governor soccer teams would travel to Sioux Falls Christian to play its first road game of the season and the boys came away with a 0-0 draw while the girls would pick up its first shutout winning 2-0.
While the Pierre Governor boys soccer team did not score a goal for the third straight game to open the season, the Governor defensive game was strong to earn the 0-0 draw. Carter Templeton would get his first shutout of the season in goal for the Govs and Pierre played a hard 80 minutes to secure the seed points with a draw against a Charger team who advanced to the state semifinals last year in the first year of Class AA. Pierre improves to 0-2-1 while Sioux Falls Christian opens the season at 0-0-1.
The Governor girls again would see Lexie Hillmer find the back of the net as she would score the goal of the game, but Cameron Larson had a hand in both goals of the day. She would assist Hillmer’s goal, but then Zoey Bauer would set up Larson for the second and sealing goal for the Govs to improve to 3-0 on the season and sit atop the Class AA standings at the end of the weekend. Emlyn Swanson would record her first shutout of the season with the win. Unlike the boys team for Sioux Falls Christian, it was the second Charger game as they fall to 1-1.
Pierre returns home to start a four game home stand with Huron in town first on Tuesday. The boys will play first at 4:00 while the girls will follow. The Huron girls just ended a 10 year winless streak this past weekend. Both games will be at the PILC Field in Pierre.
